Objectives

The objectives of the Dr. Hari Sharma Foundation are to advance education in relation to South Asia and South-Asian presence in Canada with particular focus on labour, contribute to cultural development within the South-Asian diaspora in Canada, and contribute to socially beneficial activities affecting the South Asian community.

Scholarship

The Foundation provides a graduate scholarship at Simon Fraser University in South Asian studies.

Grants

The Foundation provides a grant for research and publication on South Asian issues in Asia or British Columbia.

The Foundation provides grants for the performance of music, dance, or drama by a South Asian artist living in Canada, the publication of creative writing by a South Asian living in Canada, the exhibition of paintings, sculptures, or photographs by a South Asian living in Canada, and for the screening of video or film by a South Asian living in Canada.

Lectures

The Foundation provides funds for public lectures to be held annually on topics of current importance in regard to South Asia by scholars, journalists, writers, or social activists in South Asia.

The public lectures/seminars address issues of current importance in South Asia arranged by organizations in the South Asian community.

Education

The Foundation assists in the education of underprivileged children in India in partnership with charitable organizations engaged in the education of such children, particularly those working among the dalits/”untouchables.”
