Dr. Hari Sharma Foundation held an event on Saturday April 5, 2025, in Surrey, BC to commemorate the South Asian community winning the right to vote on April 2, 1947. The event was attended by about 100 people including a number of political leaders. At the event, the Foundation honoured five individuals and an organization for their significant contribution to the community.
Those honoured were: Hermender Singh Kailley, Secretary Treasurer, BC Federation of Labour; Mamta Foundation of Canada, Surrey BC; Paul Binning, Community Activist; Baljit Sangra, Documentary Filmmaker, and Dr. Martin Gotfrit and Professor Patricia Gruben, Filmmakers and Retired SFU Professors.
